Combined Salvage Spears often referred to as Releasing Spears or Type B/D Casing Spears are specialized internal fishing tools used to retrieve stuck or lost tubulars, such as casing, tubing, or drill pipe, from inside a wellbore. They work by expanding internally to grip the fish lost equipment and can be released if the fish is too stuck to be pulled.

Key Features and Types of Combined Salvage Spears:
  • Releasing Mechanism: Allows the tool to be disconnected from the fish if recovery is not possible.
  • Internal Grip: Features slips or a grapple that expands to engage the inside diameter ID of the fish.
  • Releasing Spear Types:
    • Type B™ and D™: Known for high versatility in retrieving various casing sizes.
    • Type E™: Heavy-duty, high-strength design for challenging well environments.
    • Releasable/Non-Releasable Spears: Specialized options, often by LiMAR, for wireline fishing, dealing with internal fish necks.
  • Accessories: Used in conjunction with pack-off assemblies for circulation, stop subs to control setting depth, and mills.
